The state of California is divided into regions called Special Education Local Plan Areas (SELPA) to provide special education services to students with disabilities living in each region. Each SELPA contains a set of school districts who work collaboratively to support students with special needs. The Mid Alameda County (MAC) SELPA serves students in the following districts:
Castro Valley, San Leandro, Hayward, San Lorenzo
SELPA responsibilities include:
- ensuring program availability for all children with disabilities
- assistance with understanding compliance requirements
- providing curriculum development and support
- transition planning
- support the Community Advisory Committee
- maintain the student information system
