Cindy Rocha, Board Member
Trustee Area 3
Term Date: 2024-2028
As a lifelong citizen of San Leandro, after earning a Civil Engineering degree at Cal I was proud to embark on my first capital improvement program, which was in and for SLUSD. What a rare and fascinating opportunity it was to improve the facilities at the very schools I had attended so many years earlier! The classrooms and multi-use buildings seemed a lot smaller than I remembered them as a student, navigating through the halls and around the PE fields, but it was deeply gratifying to be able to renovate science classrooms with new lab stations, to modernize kitchens, to replace skylights and playground equipment, to replace athletic fields, to build a brand new wing at the high school, to tear down the former and build the new Jefferson ES, and several other much-needed projects that would prove to maximize the tax dollars contributed by the community. Quality work, completed on schedule and within the budget, was the prime objective in those early days of my affiliation with SLUSD.
Now, in the world of education policy, my focus as a Board Trustee always will be to put the academic achievement of our students first (quality), which involves the timely progression through their educational program (schedule), balanced with an equitable allocation of district resources (budget), with parents and teachers having collaborative roles in helping our students to achieve their best at SLUSD so that they can move on to their next ventures.
With my professional background, I look forward to serving on Facilities and Finance committees. I’m also interested in helping in the District’s efforts with the city of San Leandro to make and keep quality housing available for our excellent teachers, so that they can live close to where they work.
