Greetings J. Madison Community! Important updates:
- Lost and Found Reminder
A parent recently shared how heartbreaking it is that her son has already lost three jackets this year and struggles to find them in the Lost and Found. I understand how stressful this can be for families. I kindly ask that if your student accidentally brings home a jacket or item that doesn’t belong to them, please return it to the Lost and Found area as soon as possible. Additionally, please refrain from “shopping” at the Lost and Found to ensure every student has the chance to recover their belongings.
I’d like to extend a big thank you to Jessica Le and her amazing team of helpers for organizing the Lost and Found. Jessica shared, "We are a Blue Ribbon School, and we want our school to reflect that honor." This pride in our school community is what makes us truly shine!
Let’s all work together to keep our Lost and Found a helpful resource for everyone. Donations will be made to a local charity on November 21st.
- Food and Toy Drive!
We are excited to invite you to our National Blue Ribbon School Community Celebration on Tuesday, November 19th! This special event is not only a chance to celebrate our shared success but also an opportunity to give back to those in need.
Please bring canned goods or a toy to contribute to our school’s annual Food and Toy Drive. Donation bins will be located at the entryway. Let’s come together as a community to show our compassion and support for families in need this holiday season. Let's support our James Madison Student Council!
We look forward to celebrating with you! Don't forget to RSVP!

Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day - November 14
A heartfelt thank you to Ruby Bridges for inspiring our Mustangs to recognize that the journey toward equality is a long arc, yet the spirit of liberation thrives in the lives of these future leaders.
A huge shoutout to the incredible team who made this special event possible: Ms. Cater, Ms. Martin, Baba Truss, Mr. Baird, Ms. Debi, Ms. Hill, and Ms. Smith. I love the amazing energy across every classroom, and we are so grateful for everyone's contributions!
Together, we continue to walk the path of courage and hope. |

1st Trimester Report Cards Release Nov. 23 in Parent Portal
This is only the first of three report card review of student progress. It is good to know that we have not taught all standards yet.
- You may notice an "X" to indicate that a content area has not been taught yet. You will also notice a number scoring system.
- A score of "1" indicates that your student is making some progress, but may be struggling.
- A score of "2" indicates that your student is making solid progress in this content area.
As we review 1st-trimester report cards, it's important to focus on your child's growth over time. These reports are a snapshot of their progress so far and provide valuable insights into their strengths and areas for growth. Learning is a journey, and we encourage you to celebrate the effort and improvement your child has made while setting goals for continued growth in the coming trimesters. Together, we can support their success!

Winter Season ❆ |
Here are some quick tips for parents to prepare for winter rains and cold weather:
Outerwear Ready: Ensure kids have appropriate outerwear like waterproof jackets, gloves, hats, and boots to stay warm and dry during rainy days. Label All of It!
Layer Up: Layering clothes helps trap heat and keeps kids warm. Use thermal undergarments and add layers that can be easily removed if they get too warm indoors.
Stay Dry: Invest in umbrellas, raincoats, and waterproof covers for backpacks to protect school supplies and books from getting wet during rainy days.
Safe Commute: Teach kids about road safety during winter conditions. Encourage reflective gear if it gets dark early and discuss the importance of watching out for slippery surfaces. No playing in puddles at school.
Health Maintenance: Keep up with flu shots and ensure good hand hygiene to ward off seasonal illnesses. Also, consider a humidifier to combat dry indoor air caused by heating systems.
Emergency Kit: Prepare an emergency kit with essentials like flashlights, batteries, non-perishable food, water, and blankets in case of power outages or severe weather conditions.
Stay Informed: Stay updated on weather forecasts and school closure announcements to plan ahead and ensure kids' safety and preparedness.
Hydration and Nutrition: Encourage drinking plenty of fluids and consuming warm, nutritious meals to keep energy levels up during colder days. Chapstick really helps to prevent chafing around the mouth area when the weather gets cold.

When it rains, we use the cafeteria for students to safely line up as they wait for school to begin. Parents are not allowed in the cafeteria, because of limited space. Students eat under the shade structure at the blue tables and parents may wait out their with their student(s).
Kinder students wait in their hallway near their door. TK will wait inside of their class with parent supervision. 1st grade will wait in their hallway near their door. Please stay along the walls and allow traffic to flow. We have many SDC classes who must navigate the hallway to access their classrooms. 2nd-5th Grade classes will wait in line in the cafeteria until their teacher picks them up.
