San Leandro, CA—The U.S. Department of Education announced James Madison Elementary School as one of the 356 schools in the nation to receive the prestigious National Blue Ribbon School designation for 2024. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona awarded this honor to schools that demonstrate academic excellence or significant progress in closing achievement gaps among student groups.

James Madison Elementary was recognized in the category of Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing School, highlighting its success in narrowing achievement gaps while maintaining high academic standards. This honor reflects the school’s commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and academically challenging environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed.

“The National Blue Ribbon Schools Award is a testament to the exceptional achievements of students and educators at each of these schools,” said Secretary Cardona. “The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools are raising the bar for our nation’s students, serving as models for effective teaching and intentional collaboration in their schools and communities.”

About the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program
Since its inception in 1982, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has recognized the outstanding achievements of public and private schools in the U.S. Schools are nominated for the award by the top education officials in their states or territories. Schools selected for the award must demonstrate superior academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps. Up to 420 schools may be nominated each year.
