Thank you for your interest in conducting research in the San Leandro Unified School District. In accordance with San Leandro School Board Regulation 6162.8: Research, the Department of Assessment and Accountability, serving as designee, shall evaluate the extent to which research proposals:
Shows potential for improving instructional programs and strategies
Addresses a relevant educational problem, concern or issue
Is designed to minimize interruptions and demands upon the time of students and staff
Research projects may be approved for a period up to one year, at which point the researcher must complete an application for extension.
Any individual (internal or external), or organization interested in conducting research, evaluation, or survey must apply before collecting any data.
Approval may take up to 6 weeks from the time a complete application is received and all clarifying questions have been answered. If you are requesting student data or the use of instructional technology, please allow an additional month for school board approval.
To apply to conduct research in SLUSD, you will need to complete the following:
Research Proposal Documents submitted in one PDF file during the SLUSD Research Request form process, including:
Institutional Review Board approval
Letter of support from a faculty advisor (if part of a graduate school program) or letter of support from Supervisor of your organization
Letter of support from an SLUSD administrator
Staff consent form
Parent consent form
Student assent form
Recruitment materials
All study instruments, including but not limited to surveys, interview questions, observation protocols, etc.
In some instances, data sharing agreements and/or Memoranda of Understanding may be required, necessitating school board approval and possibly delaying the process.
Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
SLUSD employees requesting data or survey use for internal purposes only (not to be used for graduate research studies) may apply here. Please allow 2-4 weeks for internal requests.
